Kieran/Kiera Walker [M/F] — 46 — The Manager
Growing up in Sydney, Australia, they harbor a deep love, and respect, for the ocean; something that can still be seen if you catch them early enough for their morning surf. With an indomitable spirit, sharp eye for detail, and refusal to back down, they’ve made a name for themself within Hollywood as the manager every star would be lucky to have; fortunately for you, you were the one to snatch them up. Or maybe it was the other way around?
All you know is that K Walker has kept by your side through thick-and-thin, something that’s never been more apparent than dealing with your recent run-ins with scandals, leading you to be quite uncertain where you’d be without them. Even if you may be annoyed at them for pushing this most recent project onto you— anything for your career though, right?
Will you breach the barriers that have always laid between you?
Physical Appearance: They have an athletic build. K stands at 6’3” (190.5 cm). A fair complexion complements the intensity behind their steel blue gaze. Dark auburn hair completes the look— Kieran keeps his styled professionally, not a strand out of place. While Kiera has hers falling to just beneath her shoulders.
Other Defining Characteristics: Has a faint scar on their right hip— slightly reminiscent of a bite.

Thess vs The Big Corps, Again
Dear gods, every time I turn around, one of these big corporate jackasses is saying or doing something trying to force "generative AI" into the public consciousness as something positive ... and failing ... and doing it anyway.
The best one so far was Chris Corps, of Amazon, who actually straight-up said that there's not really any acting in video games. Yeah, tell that to Neil Newbon - the guy who did that scene (you know the one, after a very character-defining stabfest moment?) in one take, unscripted. Yeah, tell me AI's going to do something so glorious that the director's going to go, "No, we are not trying this again, we're just getting this lightning in the proverbial bottle and running with it!" I will laugh so hard.
(See also - one of the biggest reasons that SAG-AFTRA is currently on strike.)
Then we had EA at this big investor's conference, talking about how "We already use it, we're going to use more of it, this is what it looks like in use, it's great! It's a tool for our creatives!" ...And then they had someone basically pretending to have AI generate architecture. Which ... feels more like putting a pink slip in the hands of "their creatives" instead of a tool. I know people who do that kind of work and it's a lot more than slapping together a few bits of skyscraper and coming out with something that not even London would allow in its skyline. I may have a thing about the Lloyds Building being the ugliest bit of modern architecture in the world. Not to mention this one building that's largely glass and somewhat curved and they had to stop people parking in certain places on the street outside because on sunny days, the light reflecting off that fucking building would set people's cars on fire. And yeah, I don't think even London's whole avant-garde architecture bullshit of the Gherkin and the Onion and the Shard (... well, okay, the Shard's pretty cool) would have some of the shit AI generates in its skyline. Seeing the "AI assistance" Google puts on search results if you don't take some very specific steps to not have it there (which I have on my PC but not on my phone, so...), I feel like AI would design a building like Tesla designed the cybertruck. It's like ... some games are only really as memorable as they are because of their skybox, and you want to outsource that to a machine? Really?
I cannot begin to express how tired I am of this whole AI thing. Video game companies are just the loudest motherfuckers about the whole thing, same as they seem to have been with NFTs and all that shit. The entire industry is going, "How can we get more money?" So they went to "live services" and subscription services and "recurrent user spending", and that wasn't enough. So they laid a whole bunch of people off (and are still doing so, I am aware) in the usual boom-and-bust cycle that Chris Deering was talking about awhile back when he was whingeing about how no, really, layoffs aren't about corporate greed! The cycle we're talking about is how they lay off a bunch of people to look their quarterly earnings sheets look good, and then have to hire them back to get anything done. Thing is, they always hire fewer than they need and then they get a reputation for crunch and "stress casualties" and all the rest of it. And now they seem to be pushing AI as The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread in the hopes that people will leave them alone and let them replace all those people they don't want to have to pay wages for with a plagiarism-and-climate-crisis machine.
I think they know there'll be a loss of quality. Thing is, I don't think they care. See, they don't really want us to love games. Or movies, come to that. It's what Matt Damon said awhile back - they don't want entertainment to be loved, because things that are loved, we watch (or play, or read, or listen to etc) again and again and again. They want us to consume it and then throw it away to leave our metaphorical decks clear for the next thing they want us to buy.
It's the meme, isn't it. "NO WAGE! ONLY BUY!" This is not sustainable. This kind of thing is entirely terrifying in the context of Texas, where a judge appointed by Trump ruled a labour board as "unconstitutional". We're expected to tolerate any kind of abuse - being overworked, being underpaid, being treated like shit, the whole nine yards - and we're increasingly not being paid enough to live, let alone spend the kind of money these CEOs want us to spend on what they seem to be deliberately making into homogenous forgettable crap so we'll have room in our hearts and minds (and wallets) for The Next Big Thing. It's supposed to be bread and circuses, but both are increasingly too expensive for what we're getting.
Honestly, I don't know what happens next. This will get increasingly unsustainable, because these jackasses in the money seats are convinced that unlimited exponential growth is possible and nothing but the loss of their fortunes will convince them otherwise. But before they lose theirs ... well, they won't lose theirs because a lot of it is probably in an offshore bank account somewhere ... anyway, the people who work to make them their money will suffer long, long before they get so much as inconvenienced. So Chris Deering can bite me about how hard layoffs are for managers.
All that to say that AI is just highlighting the absolute worst of corporate policy, and I hate it. But I point you to an interesting article titled "Challenging the Myths of Generative AI", which might help if you're anything like me and end up in arguments about things like, "using someone's AI voice after their death is ghoulish and gross and I don't care how much you want George Carlin to read you your homework".

Have you a creative process when you make comics or stories ? (Storyboard ect..) and if yes, can you explain it please ??
it depends on what the comic is. Some of them, as a recent example being the upcoming Frilda confession comic, I just come up with it and start drawing. Some of the other's however I need more preparation.
Knowing where a comic is taking place helps to find/look for any references I might need be it screenshots of backgrounds, character model sheets/screenshots, etc etc. If there's a new character or place then either in a series bible (like for my Leilana comics) or on scrap paper make sure to do some rough drafts until u find the right design. Trust me, it'll save a lot of time and paper, there's nothing worse than wearing down the paper with constant erasing only for when u finally get a design u like to have phantom lines all around from how damaged the paper is.
When writing a comic in my head, I'm able to hear the characters' voices and how they'd respond to what the scenario is. Going back and editing it is easier (tho' it makes me redo the whole scene which...yea...) however when I get an opportunity I begin writing things down. This part has the most cuts to every version that was in my head until it looks like it makes the most sense. I'll ask a friend to look it over so I can edit it again and once that's done then I get started on the rest (when I can, I ain't drawing a 4 page comic at 3 am...). Sometimes the script on paper can be wildly different from what was in your head and that's fine, I see it as ur hand(s) (hands if ur typing) editing ur brain and only putting down the important parts of the story.
Because I've been doing this for a while, I can read the script and come up with the panel placements in my head, sketching out the panels with my color-sketch pencils and making adjustments as needed (remember to draw lightly), do brief sketches of the characters and the backgrounds (where needed) and then adding the dialogue, sometimes I change up the dialogue from the script when I notice that it won't fit a word balloon that well or awkwardly, then once it's all ready I ink the dialogue, word balloons and panels in that order. Then ink the characters and backgrounds and effects. I add whatever else I need to do, shading, marker, etc etc and then it's done. Scan it in and either post it or hold on if it's a piece of a larger part.
Don't be afraid to try both scripted and unscripted comics either. I'd recommend scripting it if it's longer, and unscripted can be good for random jokes. A mixture of the two are also fine, I tend to have an outline for my Leilana comics, basic idea on what characters, setting, dialogue/jokes and then once I get the reference stuff done I start drawing. Tho' for the longer arcs, I make sure to write out a script so I can know how many comic strips I'll be drawing.
This method of course is how I find it best for me, it might not be the best for u and so if something doesn't work then don't worry about cutting it out of the step process. Comics r a fun form of art & storytelling and I highly encourage more ppl to try it no matter the skill level.

Opening Line Patterns
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (or however many you have) posted fics and see if there's a pattern!
Thank you so much for the tag, @seaofolives!!! 💚💚💚🥰🥰🥰
I'll do the opposite of you and go straight chronological, lol, but I'm taking your cue on first sentence vs. first paragraph. And I'm not adding the fandom and pairing for each one because they're all FireSky fics 😅 (that is one way in which I do not mind being a one-trick pony ❤️💜)
Sunday:
Justice Day, for once, goes off without a hitch.
Love, Counted along the Fibonacci Sequence:
The bar is… a little different from what Keith is used to.
An Honest Mistake:
When her phone rings, Nathan startles so hard that her tablet slips from her lax grip, and only a quick, awkward mad juggle saves it from plunging into her bath water.
Intertidal:
"And we can see that the robbers have split up at the intersection! But the heroes are still in hot pursuit!"
Second Song:
When her alarm rang, Nathan turned it off with a quick, easy tap, and stretched luxuriously under the sheets, humming contentedly.
Gravity:
The training center was never quite, perhaps, the best-smelling place in Justice Tower; but to Nathan, as she stepped out of the elevator, the familiar scent was still a huge breath of fresh air.
Asterism:
A bottle of wine poured into your bathwater is never a bad idea, according to certain magazines.
Unscripted:
The whole thing starts, appropriately enough, with a wish.
Three-Step Turn:
When Nathan leaves her house, the sky is just starting to turn from black to blue, and the sun has yet to show its face above the horizon.
And Dream of Home:
With extreme care, Keith dips his brush in the paint on his palette, just barely, and makes the tiniest adjustment to the image on the canvas.
Patterns, patterns... Let's see. I tend to try to tell you almost right away who the POV character is, but it's not always in the very first sentence. I seem to love starting with a preposition (no idea if that's good or bad), especially "when". (That seems a bit boring/basic. 😕) Other than that, I see at least some variety, which is a relief! 😅
I'm tagging anyone who wants to do this! 💙

i've been figuring out how i want to choose winners for this, since i do what an element of surprise even to myself. part of the joy of unscripted tv is not knowing what's going to happen, which isn't the same when i'm literally scripting it. i've run simulations, but in the end i decided a drag race rpg would be the funniest option. rolled for their stats though i did a bit of smudging for how i'm characterizing them (much like reality tv, the quiet hand of the editor is always in play).
this is more for me than anyone else, but i spent all this time making this beautiful character sheet i thought i might as well post it.

Welcome to OC Hell!
Well, it seems you found my OC blog! Glad you're here! But before you go any further-
Headcanons and shipping Some of the OCs I post here are fankids. I'm sure you might have your own ships you prefer, and I respect that. I would also like you to respect my preferences. I also ship my own OCs so the same rules go there too. I respect you, you respect me. And if you have any headcanons about my OCs, I'd love to hear them! Just use your brain when you come up with them. I don't mind the absurd, just don't come up with anything gross.
Submissions and asks While not an ask blog, you can submit asks and posts to the OCs directly. You can also submit them to me, the creator. There are just some very basic rules: Be kind, be polite, questions about romance are allowed but that's as far as it can and will go.
Timeframes and Activity? I don't know when I'll post stuff. Nor do I know when I'll make stuff. Don't expect much of a schedule lmao
Tags I will have certain tags for things involving this blog
#now kiss!- The shipping tag. This is where I talk about the OC and canon character ships.
#doing doodling- Art tag. This can be full pieces and sketches but not ref sheets. Those will be under the #refs pls tag
#braindumping- The info and headcanon tag. This is where all my unscripted ramblings about the OCs and the worlds they inhabit go. Or just my thoughts involving them.
#lore time- The writing tag. This is where I'll either post more structured writing about my OCs. This means timelines, or minifics.
I will also tag the fandoms I make OCs for. Those will be #genshin #DR #touhou #hsr and #non fandom and maybe others if I find anything else later.
#fanchildren- I make enough fanchildren that they deserve a tag of their own.
And that's all! Thanks for reading this! Have fun!

Maybe you've answered this before, but which of the bleach movies are you favorites? Do you like them in general? I feel like I've watched the DDR 100 times, but the movies aren't really talked about much in general it seems....
Neither of us really think about them as discrete "movies"—we take them more as a collection of elements, many of which we find very appealing. I think we’ve rewatched them almost annually since 2020, but I’m not sure either of us could actually explain to you what happens in them. We’re too distracted by the dazzling glamor of the Elements.
I will say, like you, Diamond Dust Rebellion holds a special place in my heart! It was the only one that premiered during my first stint with Bleach, and I definitely have vague but fond memories of watching a raw copy on an 11" iBook that I assume was approximately 120p.
Here are my personal favorite Elements from all the Bleach movies—some of which are scenes, some of which are character moments, and some of which are honestly… the laundry lint equivalent of "things that were part of this movie" that I still really love because, as this post will immediately make clear, I have serious Blorbo Disease.
MOVIE 1: Memories of Nobody
1. Commuting: Honestly obsessed with the fact that Hitsugaya and Matsumoto spend so much of this movie commuting. They just keep… going back and forth between dimensions? AND FOR WHY. Peak Gotei efficiency!
2. Bridge Whimsy: The scene where everyone jumps off the bridge into the water and are super duper extra about it. @dont-look-up has a great gifset of Renji and Rukia trying out for the Soul Society Diving Team.
Hitsugaya and Matsumoto are also great in this scene. They’re both crouched in the same nook of bridge for some reason? And when Matsumoto encroaches on Hitsugaya’s space he wordlessly moves her arm out of the way and it’s so casual and non-eventful. Love that for them but also love that for the animation, because it’s an "unnecessary" non-eventful movement that got to be drawn and animated. You can’t have unscripted movement in this medium—it adds nothing and everything! Unfortunately, searching "bridge" on B3 didn’t turn that gifset up, so it wont’ be includd in this post.
3. Blobby Hisagi: Speaking of animation, Hisagi basically only appears in this movie as a blobby smudge of color in the background. My co-blogger put together a comprehensive account of every time Hisagi shows up in this movie, and it is a post I love dearly.
* Honorable mention to the kidou cannon, which comes up a lot in conversation, considering how little reason there is to do so. But THE KIDOUUUUU CANNONNNNN
MOVIE 2: DiamondDust Rebellion
1. LAWSON TRUCK!!!!
There’s a transition scene where a Lawson truck randomly drives by and I am OBSESSED with it. I mean, I love Lawson, which is a Japanese convenience store chain. But most of the stores/brands in Bleach are either generic or made up, as is true of many anime. Yet there’s a real, honest to god Lawson Truck in this movie. It makes me wonder if there was some kind of Lawson promo that went with DDR’s release. Anyway, I see you, Lawson Truck. I love you.
2. Hitsugaya's Bow: After finding himself in Ichigo’s bed after passing out in the forest outside Karakura (and, one assumes, bleeding all over his sheets), Hitsugaya leaves without a word in the dead of night. But he still takes the time to bow at the Kurosaki house, as thanks for its hospitality. I love this quiet, quotidian gesture in the midst of a whole lot that is neither quiet nor quotidian.
3. DETECTIVE BYAKUYA. BYAKUYA, ON THE CASE. This is best explained by my earlier post about this.
It’s best dramatized by the second music video I’ve ever made in my life, a tribute to Detective Byakuya and Law and Order: Soul Society.
We have a whole tag for Detective Byakuya (and more posts to yet to be written!):
4. Hisagi/Kira vs. Hitsugaya is one of my favorite short fights (maybe one of my favorite fights, period??) in Bleach. Hisagi gets to be incredibly cool and use a bunch of kidou and backflip onto a torii gate. Hisagi and Kira are then immediately annihilated by Hyourimaru’s shikai once Hitsugaya decides he doesn’t have enough HP left to deal with this shit, but Hisagi and Kira were very cool up until that point!
I’m certain Hitsugaya is capable of annihilating Hisagi and Kira whenever he wants, but I do want to note that it wasn’t exactly a fair fight. Hisagi and Kira didn’t want to hurt him, particularly since he was already heavily injured. Hitsugaya, uh, did not have similar qualms.
5. ZABIMARU EXPREEEEEEEEEEEESS
Soul Society’s most exclusive, breathtaking way to travel. (cue Jrock cover of Disney Aladdin’s "A Whole New World")
MOVIE 3: Fade to Black
1. Byakuya Discovers Doors: One day I’m gonna get it in gear and make a gifset for this, because this scene is the BEST THING THAT’S EVER HAPPENED TO ME IN MY LIFE. There’s a full sequence of Byakuya combing through the Kuchiki Estate and opening every single door. Just walking around. Opening all the doors. In the dead of night.
And OKAY, the context for this is that he’s in Detective Byakuya mode; he can sense that something is amiss but isn’t able to discern what—he’s searching for anything that will help the missing pieces fall into place. (The missing piece is Rukia’s entire existence.) But it’s not like he tells any of his retainers this so for all they know he’s just going around opening all the doors in the dead of night, and they have to quietly follow behind him and close them all, murmuring, "ah yes, our Lord Byakuya, always working. Very thorough examination of doors and hinges tonight." I love him.
2. Hitsugaya is 11th Division's Foster Captain: Hitsugaya is working with Ikkaku and Yumichika in this movie for some reason—like, goes out to Inuzuri with them, even as he’s left Matsumoto behind to do work with their actual division. This is important to me only because it’s not the only time he’s been the 11th’s foster captain?? I’m not even talking about the Advance Team arc, which is something else entirely. In the Bount arc, when Zaraki is similarly indisposed/unreachable, Hitsugaya also ends up in charge of the 11th. Like, who decides this???
Anyway thank you, whatever bureaucratic processes makes this happen over and over again; I appreciate you. I’m sure Hitsugaya Suffers every time. (But he also probably prefers this over any other option, because the second option is probably just "idk 11th go freeball it do whatever you want!!". Also, Hitsugaya is always volunteering for this stuff.)
MOVIE 4: Hellverse
Okay, we just saw this movie (well, we just saw all of them, but this one was last!), but I’m not remembering a lot of it right now because it’s low on Blorbo Disease triggers. I do very much enjoy the Six Hearts gang running around in Squarespace (Hell)!! But this post is very long, so I’ll just say:
1. Byakuya Projecting by offering his fairly lengthy opinions about Ichigo and Yuzu, considering he’s known of Yuzu’s existence for about 2 seconds and she has been bereft a soul and comatose the entire time.
2. Why is Hitsugaya even here, edition 90009: I love the fact that Hitsugaya is part of this Hell Portal team at all. Byakuya and Ukitake make some sense, in that Rukia and Renji are the Gotei officers most involved with this. But why is Hitsugaya there lol. I like to think that he thought it would be a good opportunity to learn about portals, and considers this professional development.
#If there'sone thing I can say about this post#it certainly offers a vivid picture of what it's like to be me lol.#really just a portal into the brain#'my favorite part was the part where hitsugaya was in it in spite of or perhaps because it makes no sense for him to be involved' <- me#bleach movies#bleach anime#hitsugaya toushirou#kuchiki byakuya#hisagi shuuhei#lawson truck#asks#no brain just bleach

I think that’s the one that hurts the most. At least 30%-50% of what we got was actually from chris and darren improvising and not written in by the writers like!!!! I can’t imagine what a clusterfuck it would have been if chris and darren didn’t do that for klaine. I just- it’s so unfair, we just wanted more klaine affection without them being mocked but instead we get social distancing klaine :’
Lmaooo we really did. Surprised they weren’t kissing through a plastic sheet like Pushing Daisies
But okay some the moments that were improvised, or at least unscripted: the “because of the layers” kiss, them holding hands in 3x14, the kiss in 4x04, the kiss in 6x13, as well as the part where the script is like “kurt and mercedes hug, his head on her shoulder” or whatever when in reality he’s practically in blaine’s lap and just reaching out to hold her hand lol
Never mind all the lines they threw in that weren’t in the script. Honestly I think that’s part of what makes Klaine so perfect. That CC took the time to create these little moments that we wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. Like they knew what people wanted to see, they honestly knew what was best for their characters (better than the writers did, at least) and they did the best they could with the chances they were given

Christine! Writing help question here, if that's okay with you: I saw your reblog on Crowley's blubber/stutter at points throughout GO series and wanted to ask how to make dialogue realistic? Like irl we say uh and backtrack and stuff a lot but I'm wondering how to pull it off well... and kind of on a tangent, I struggle with finding a balance between dialogue and action (too much dialogue in my case). Any tips?
Hi, Ver!
Sorry it took me so long to reply to your ask, I wasn’t around on my laptop much and I wanted to give you a proper response! The post @verdelet is refering to is this one, which is a compilation of all the times Crowley in Good Omens just makes noises instead of saying stuff, where I used the following tags:
#HONESTLY THOUGH #THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF HOW DIALOGUE WORKS THOUGH! #SOMETIMES WHEN I READ A FIC AND THE AUTHOR INCLUDES THESE SOUNDS IN THEIR DIALOGUE I GET ALL HAPPY! #BECAUSE PEOPLE MAKE THOSE SOUNDS WHEN THEY TALK! #AND LIKE!!! YES!!! #EXCELLENT ACTING CHOICES!!!!
I don’t think I have any specific tips, but let me try.
I’ve put it under a read more, because it got a bit long <3
There’s one scene I always, always, always think about when I think about my dialogue and writing it, and it’s this one from Ocean’s 11:
youtube
Which in the script of the movie looked like this:
DANNY (V.O.) And Saul makes ten.
48 INT. BAR - NIGHT
48Danny and Rusty look weary from all this recruitment. Anearby TV with the sound off plays a promo for anupcoming Tyson fight.
DANNYTen should do it, don't you think?
(as Rusty shrugs)You think we need one more?
(as Rusty shrugs)You think we need one more.
(as Rusty shrugs)Okay. We'll get one more.
It’s super simple, but it works so well, because it feels genuine - the whole Ocean’s franchise is really good with its dialogue (a lot of it was scripted, but a lot of it was unscripted too). This was just for inspiration.
But, like, when I write dialogue - especially in action scenes - I try to let it flow naturally, as much as possible - if that means I have to cut up the description of a car flipping over in order to get the swear word in, I’ll do that:
He’d miscalculated the stickiness of the road - or rather, lack thereof. The moment he felt the car skid off the ice, his heart took an unexpected leap into his throat.
“Fuck!”
He immediately gripped the wheel tighter and stopped pressing the brakes in the hope of steering the car back on track. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck,” he muttered under his breath as he tried to figure out how long he had before they were done for good.
You can also use the dash to cut up your dialogue:
The road ahead seemed to be going into a tight turn, though, and in spite of his efforts he may not be able to get the car to stop before they hit the bedrock.
And so, the only thing that came out of his lips as he felt the car skid onto the patch of black ice was “Jesu- fu- hold on!”
“Hold on to what?” she yelled from the passenger’s seat, her fingers gripping the safety belt.
Turning the wheel completely to the other side, in the hopes of forcing it onto the side, he clenched his teeth.
It’s like a natural cut up of the word, sometimes people get interrupted in what they’re saying, and it’s totally fine to do it in the dialogue as well. I usually keep in mind that the words needs to get cut off in a place that’s logical - for example, if you’re going to cut off “fuck”, better either cut if off at “f-” or at “fu-” because “fuc-” just doesn’t make a lot of sense, if that makes sense?
I also quite like having my characters repeat things, or look for their words when they’re mumbling, so I consciously try and get them to say things either twice or mumble, like I would in real life. It’s like letting the dialogue tell the story, rather than try and say that they’re mumbling or looking for their words:
Finally, as the car skid to a halt, she hit him in the shoulder. “You! You absolute- you absolute idiot!” she shrieked as him, as she tried hitting him again, but this time, he caught her wrist.
“I’m sorry- hey, stop- I’m sorry, alright?! I didn’t- I didn’t think the road was going to be frozen tonight!”
“You should have known!”
He made a sound, sharply inhaling. “Huh?! I’m sorry I didn’t! Because I don’t control the weather, okay? And can you please stop trying to hit me?!”
He caught her other hand this time and immobilized her in her seat.
“Uhhh, yeah, pfff.” She paused for a couple of seconds, before resuming: “You’re always, always, always going on about how well you know these- these- these stupid roads!”
One of my favorite parts of dialogue I’ve written is in chapter 7 of Nothing Burns Like the Cold, when Clint is explaining to Steve why the American military is in Greenland, and he’s explaning the Monroe Doctrine and the whole World War II shebang up in the North Pole, because I feel like I made Clint’s long, long, long monologue break up into more understandable pieces of dialogue. I’ve highlighed the ‘dialogue things’ I did in bold in order to make the monologue feel more natural:
“Well, I’m not sure if you know this, but the Danish Ambassador to the United States during World War Two decided he wasn’t going to take orders from occupied Denmark, and so whenever he spoke to American politicians or diplomats, he would do it on behalf of the ‘free’ Denmark. He thought that because the King and Government were being held prisoner, none of their orders mattered, and apparently we liked that a lot. Especially because of the Monroe Doctrine, I think- I- I think that was it. Because we got afraid that Nazi Germany would establish bases in Greenland, so when this guy, when this uh- this- Kauffman? Yeah, that was his name, it was a big deal when Kauffman came into the picture and said that he was giving the United States authorization to defend Danish colonies on Greenland from the Germans. He was sentenced for treason by everybody back home in Copenhagen, but it’s basically because of his agreement that we’re still in Greenland. He never put an end date on the agreement, I think they called it something like the ‘agreement relating to the defense of Greenland’ but I’m not sure on the exact phrasing. It just states that the American personnel can stay on site until- until- uh, ‘for as long as there is an agreement’?”
Clint rubs a pearl of sweat off his temple, as he takes a breath.
“The US Coast Guard and War Department established some weather and radio stations, and it didn’t really matter after a while, once the war ended. But, a couple of years after the German abdication, stuff happened - NATO, and other agreements, Denmark ratifying the agreement and everything. It made Denmark and the US closer allies. In 1951 though, the Danish and American nations forced native Kalaalit people out of their homes in Thule, because the establishment of the airbase was of “more importance” than them living there, where they’d been living for centuries.” Clint pauses, as he looks over at Steve.
“It was bad, man. Governments said it was on voluntary basis, but it wasn’t. Kind of like when we put the Native peoples of the Americas in camps and called it a good thing,” Clint spits, as he clenches his hands. “After all of that, Greenland became a key point in the Cold War. I mean they set up… They set up 14 bases in Greenland, Bluie West, and Bluie East. And then, when Operation Chrome Dome sailed around, they used Thule as one of the bases where they could re-fuel and load up the B-52s that would fly around 24/7. That operation ended in 1968 when one of the planes crashed.”
He pauses.
“In Greenland. On the - the indlandsis? The ice sheet? Right out of Baffin Bay, they think. They were carrying four hydrogen bombs aboard. Thankfully, there wasn’t a big nuclear explosion because the safeties prevented it, but the explosion caused the sheet to melt and a huge area to become contaminated with radioactive material. It also sank to the bottom of the ocean.”
Clint rubs his face and spits to the side.
“The clean-up, they called it Crested Ice, I think. I mean the plane crashed and burned, and there was a patch of blackened ice which was just- just huge, man. I’ve seen the aerial picture that was taken then, and it was terrible. Some documents which were released from the clean up revealed that plutonium contamination reached extremely high levels, and there was… It was bad, Steve. The workers who helped clean up were poisoned, and they still haven’t received compensation for their work.”
Sighing, Clint finally says the truth that he doesn’t want to tell Steve: “Part of the entire Chrome Dome operation and the Thule Air Base was to patrol the Arctic border to the USSR and to find you, Steve. ” Clint takes a deep breath, as he sees Steve’s head drop next to him.
And, the whole above quote, which is practically 600 words of Clint monologuing, all the while I was writing it, I was sometimes stopping up and reading it out loud to see where would someone pause, where would someone search for their words, where would they be thinking about another word?
I remember when I wrote it, it was difficult because there was a lot of information I had to write correctly (the whole Kauffman and Monroe Doctrine is historically accurate, as is the displacement of the Kalaalit peoples) but also make it seem like it was someone trying to recall something they’d learned a long time ago all the while explaining it to someone who had never heard of it before.
It’s the same thing when your character doesn’t know the thing and motions for it instead. If we continue in the car crash example I was writing earlier, it’d give something like this:
“You told me the bend would be like- like this,” she says, as she moves her fingers in an S-shaped formation, and he shakes his head.
“Nah, it’s more-” he moves her hands closer together, “-like this.”
It’s breaking up the lines and introducing the actions you need to convey where your words can’t do it for you - in the above example with Clint, when he’s looking for his words, I like to think that the reader can imagine him either moving his hands or looking thoughtful because he’s repeating himself, or he’s mumbling, or talking to himself, and therefore, I don’t have to tell the reader that he’s mumbling, because he’s doing it himself? (Does any of this even make sense???)
And, FINALLY, to answer your last question, any tips on finding a balance between action and dialogue would be writing the thing, and then leaving it be for a couple of hours and coming back to it, to read it with a pair of fresh eyes.
If the action scene slows down too much because of the dialogue, you don’t have to interrupt it with actual dialogue, but you can just write that they’re “exchanging swear words” or “yelling whenever their body takes a hit” instead of wanting to force the swear words into the narrative text, if that makes sense?
Otherwise, I don’t have any tips, other than reading your work again if you feel like you were struggling with it. Eventually, if you have someone who is willing to help you out, get a beta and ask them to look out for your pacing.
@kate-katiehawkeye helped me SO MUCH with Swallow Your Soul, like, the only reason that story makes a bit of sense if thanks to her amazing eyes.
I hope that this large and long pile of blubber managed to help you out a little bit? I am not the best at giving advice because I feel like half the stuff I’m doing is a total improvisation thing, so... I hope this helped! :D

Spencer Hale [M/F] — 33 — The Director
Cinematography has been the lifeblood of their creative process for as long as they could remember— directing, producing, and writing, has called to them in a way nothing else ever has. Of course, this may be due to the fact that their grandfather is a famous director in his own right. Something that Spencer has never allowed to help them— they wanted their accomplishments to be their own, which is why it’s taken them so long to get Last Laugh going.
With a calming presence, a gentle heart, and seemingly endless compassion, it’s quite interesting to see the way they can command the set when it’s time for action. Even if it’s been a while since you’ve last seen them— since dorm sleepovers, frantic study sessions for finals, and endless laughter in the quad— Spencer hasn’t seemed to change that much. Still regarding you with a warm, albeit wary, familiarity that comes from knowing one another.
Will you end up rekindling what had once been lost? Or will you be two ships passing in the night?
Physical Appearance: They have an elegantly lithe build, somewhat like a dancers. Spencer stands at 5’10” (177.8 cm) with a warm beige complexion. Emerald eyes complement the light blonde color of their hair— M!Spencer having his fall in boyish curls across his forehead. While F!Spencer keeps her to just over her shoulders.
Other Defining Characteristics: Has a small camera tattoo on their left wrist from losing a bet to you back in college— something that’d typically covered by the sweaters/cardigans they wear.

The Shopping Pitfall

One thing I've learned while playing a homebrew DnD game with a bunch of broke, overworked adults is that you don't need to spend a lot of money to play Dungeons & Dragons. Sure, there are books and miniatures and props and maps, but almost every gameplay scenario can be directed by one's own imagination, as long as you've got a charismatic DM and a bit of scratch paper. We've navigated whole towns of NPCs and complex, trap-filled lairs with nothing more than question-and-answer and some used plastic army men.
Having said that, some basic provisions will make the game much easier to follow. For instance, at least one person in the group should get their hands on The Player's Handbook. Much of what you'll glean from it will end up on your character sheet or your notebook, but navigating the items, spells, and traits of character management is challenging without a hard copy. No need to buy more than one, pass it around! WOTC will never know you didn't buy one for every player! A rulebook of some sort will be required, whether it's an online, searchable DB, or a condensed rulebook from WOTC, or the full-fat Dungeon Master's Guide, a viewable copy of the rules will help the DM referee and lay down the law. I've been lucky to play with a group that does not, by and large, want to spend time splitting hairs or can-I-do-this-while-grappled and so on; even so I'll be keeping a rulebook close. Finally, it's pretty difficult to play without some dice, and while you *could* get by with a single set of polyhedrals, it's much more convenient for everyone to have their own. A DM is likely to need additional d6's, d8's, and d10's if he or she is going to efficiently roll for damage once the action starts.
You would think with this much experience, I would be immune to the allure of a DnD shopping spree. Alas, you would be mistaken, and already I've fallen into the trap of attempting to buy competency when I should be working on the salient details of my little universe.
Can you blame me, though? It's never been easier to buy!

You're only ever one click away from dozens of modules and expansions, hundreds of accessories and minis, and literally thousands of dice. Dice for days. Everyone's making dice, because everyone wants in on Dungeons & Dragons. Wallets beware; no matter your level of play or interest, online retailers have you covered. Want a custom notebook, complete with character sheet? A polymer dice jail to punish unlucky dice rolls? A fully-custom 3D-printed miniature? A coffee mug with your character's stats on the side? A giant bag of holding to store your literal thousand dice? There's something for everyone!

What can I say, I'm only human, and I actually love the physical props available these days. I have every intention of making an in-universe World's Fair advertising flyer for each player. We're going full tactile on this.
But like Sagan said, “If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe”, and I haven't gotten there yet. My first real purchasing mistake was in trying to decide what kind of starter kit to spring for. Money is always tight in the Ugrush lair, so the cost difference of the "Essentials Kit" versus the "Starter Kit" blinded me to the pitfalls. I bought the former, and got a handy condensed rule book, a set of dice, a starter adventure module, and some pre-printed - and filled-in - character sheets for same. No blank sheets, no hex maps, no status markers, and only a digital code for a printable DM screen - the one physical item it seemed like every version of starter kit came with.
Whoops.
So I'm out $18, but I can take the hit. I seek out a screen, and get a bit more lucky with the "Wilderness Kit", which in addition to a 4-panel hardback screen, comes with some nice status cards and a lot of hex grid dry-erase panels for unscripted encounters.
Then my PCs start drafting characters for me to preview, and oh boy. Carl has spent so long as an NPC that he's fully committed to being a Fair participant / retailer as an Arcane Artificer. Does he care that it's a low magic setting where such magical artistry is likely to be frowned-upon in light of new-fangled technology? No, and that's fine and good for him etc. But shouldn't he care that it's not in my player's handbook and, so far as my knowledge base is concerned, may as well be a made-up class? Well If I told him that, he very well might, but I am gripped by cowardice and we soldier on. Nor can Leah, fresh off of playing the reluctant adult in a party of misfits, resist the siren call of the Swashbuckler - another expansion class.
This is how Wizards Of the Coast gets what they're owed. I'd be a bad DM for not knowing how these classes work, and a worse one for disallowing them for same! We're only starting at level 3, surely there are only so many tricks these crafty PCs can throw! But there's only one way to be sure.
One copy of Xanathar's Guide to Everything, please!

Artist research:
William Kentridge
William Kentridge is a South African artist best known for his prints, drawings, and animated films. These are constructed by filming a drawing, making erasures and changes, and filming it again. each film he create illustrates a story, typically showing the hardship of peoples lives.
History of the Main Complaint - 1966
This film is the sixth in the series and is based on twenty-one drawings. It was made shortly after the establishment in South Africa of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, headed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. It was set up to conduct a series of public hearings into abuses of human rights perpetrated during the apartheid era. The hearings, in which individuals told their stories of personal suffering, were held in order to make reparation for abuse and in the hope of creating reconciliation between peoples. The underlying theme of this film is a (self) recognition of white responsibility. This is played out through a 'medical' investigation into the body of Soho Eckstein, the white property-developing magnate and greedy-capitalist protagonist of most of the preceding films, which provides the starting point for a revelation of conscience.
Kentridges use of precise erasure and smudging creates this transformative effect in his work. This is most prominent in the beginning scene where we see the sleeping man , snoring in the hospital bed. Though we can see the erasure marks and pieces, we see the images come to life as each mark or erasure becomes a different movement, keeping the audience interested and the story engaging.
Process.
Typically Kentridge uses charcoal to create his pieces, this is because charcoal is very easy to erase and has a good range of tones. Kentridges practice was to draw an image, capture it and go back and change it to another image to show the movement all on the same sheet of paper . He often says that during walking in-between the camera and the canvas , he thinks about what he is going to draw next as his films are unscripted. Whatever is left on the canvas is the last shot of the scene or film, in this shot we usual see a a few marks and line showing how much a character or a certain object has moved. Though this technique is messy, it creates an unforgettable impact on the audience as they don’t suspect this paper image to move. I believe i want to use this type of media in my outcome as it is an interesting a way of storytelling and reminds me of the past, which is something i want my audience to experience as well.

The World of Movie Distribution Is a Tough Place

The universe of movie circulation is an extreme spot. Subsequent to battling and perspiring to complete a movie you're rationally and physically depleted.
You simply need to take a break and rest, however you can't on the grounds that completing a movie is just a large portion of the fight. It's an ideal opportunity to enter the universe of movie appropriation.
Movie circulation is an extreme spot for producers new to the pound. It's difficult to turn off the innovative personality to manage the business side of selling movies.
What I've discovered the most difficult way is the movie appropriation truly begins with advancing and advertising a movie.
Internet based life is a cheap method to get the word out about your movie and make a stellar viral buzz on the web.
It's cool to go the film celebration course to get your movie seen by watchers and potential film purchasers, however throughout the years from conversing with different producers there is a typical inclination that the film celebration scene is too jam-packed at this point.
U.K. movie producer Wayne Daniells from LiarDice Movies revealed to me his last excursion to The Cannes Universal Film Celebration was a savage nourishing free for all.
There were an overabundance of movies and makers were battling to get the consideration of movie merchants.
With everything taken into account Wayne communicated that it was an exercise in futility and cash pitching his film there. I've heard a similar sentiment from different producers that are baffled with the film celebration scene and never again consider it to be a decent method to verify movie circulation.
I for one like the immediate course of reaching movie wholesalers to check whether they're keen on being sent a screener. This is the place it helps in the event that you have just been advancing and advertising your movie internet utilizing web-based social networking.
Movie merchants are progressively keen on gaining movies that as of now have a solid online nearness.
I'm carefully talking from a genuine free movie point of view. Studio spending movies are a totally unique creature with regards to the universe of movie dispersion.
With regards to movie conveyance for a non mainstream created film the manner in which it typically happens are free makers and producers go out on a limb making the movie with no ensured movie dissemination bargain set up.
They more often than not need to shop it around to sell it. That has been my own experience up until now. I've never made substance with a movie circulation bargain set up.
It resembles composing a screenplay on spec, yet you're managing a movie. Advancing and promoting a movie through online networking is an outright should.
Begin ahead of schedule before you're movie is even wrapped up. That way when you start reaching movie wholesalers you're movie will as of now have more intrigue since individuals are discussing it.
Movie wholesalers that take into account discharging free movies do almost no showcasing for the vast majority of the titles they discharge.
In case you're movie doesn't have any entertainers or superstar names connected to it then it won't get showcased outside of the standard supplement in a movie wholesaler list.
So once you do verify a movie appropriation arrangement you're as of now giving your movie a lift by advancing and promoting yourself.
My brain is everywhere today, so given me a chance to return to finding a movie circulation bargain. Hold up please. A pleasant Mill operator Light would enable me to concentrate at the present time.
That is vastly improved at this point. There are various approaches to arrive a film dispersion bargain. You can spend the cash doing the film celebration course. Arrangements get struck all the time at film celebrations.
Be that as it may, sincerely there is an excess of film celebrations. The quantity of film celebrations is way lopsided contrasted with the quantity of movie wholesalers that discharge autonomous movies.
Avoiding the film celebration circuit works for some autonomous movie makers that don't have name on-screen characters in their film or realize their story won't speak to a workmanship house swarm.
Employing a film deals delegate is a decent call on the off chance that you skirt the film celebration scene all together. A film deals agent or maker's rep has contacts with movie merchants to get your movie screened.
In addition a considerable lot of them can get you into magazines like Non mainstream Slate and MovieMaker to make your movie look additionally engaging movie wholesalers.
They likewise watch your back with regards to movie circulation understandings. At the point when producers take a gander at movie dispersion understandings it very well may overpower.
There is bunches of legalese "jibber jabber" in there intended to diminish the measure of cash you make from movie sovereignty installments or a clear purchase out of your movie.
Except if you have experience perusing movie circulation gets it's anything but difficult to get exploited. I'm in the propensity know regardless of whether I have a movies deals agent like "El Tigre" watching my back despite everything I read all agreements totally.
You will be astonished at the concealed charges and costs some movie wholesalers attempt to get over on a producer with in out of every other place on earth, the agreement definitions area.
My film deals rep and I once found a level expense of $50,000 for showcasing costs in the definitions area.
Enlisting an excitement lawyer is another great move, yet for the most part is unreasonably exorbitant for a really free producer. Furthermore from my own experience an amusement lawyer isn't as useful as a film deals rep with verifying a movie circulation bargain or getting you some press.
That is not so much the activity an amusement lawyer. They're incredible with regards to arranging your movie dispersion contract. In any case, most won't get you an arrangement like a film deals rep. You can acquire them after you have an arrangement on the table.
I had two sharp diversion legal advisors that spared my rear end from getting singed when it came to sell an unscripted TV drama I delivered called "America's Most stunning Single man Gatherings." They got me a maker cordial contract and got me paid on time each quarter. I'm happy I contracted them.
On the off chance that it's only not in your financial limit to employ a film deals rep or stimulation legal advisor you can in any case secure important movie appropriation hustling hard yourself.
Advancing and showcasing your movie online is followed up by assembling a spotless and perfect film bundle to send to movie merchants. Keep it basic with a DVD screener, one-sheet fine art, tight rundown, slogan and short profiles for key cast or group that have past IMDB credits.
To get a rundown of potential movie merchants see what organizations are discharging movies in a similar sort as yours. The Web makes it entirely simple to discover contact data these days.
Movie circulation organizations typically have a contact page for film entries. Pursue the rules and mail off your film bundle. They get a surge of film entries, so be understanding whether you don't hear back immediately. check my blog Movies
Movie wholesalers have certain occasions they are forcefully looking for movies to fill their list and different occasions they have all they requirement for the time being. I have the purchasing months recorded.
When they get your film bundle they will Google your movie. That is the place having been advancing and showcasing your movie online truly sticks out. It takes more than just having a site or blog.
You need some press and sponsorship from online film bloggers to make your movie champion according to movie wholesalers.
I devoted a section about movie conveyance in a book on independent filmmaking I composed. It may assist you with progressively itemized movie dissemination data. All the best with showcasing and selling your movie.
